Polar Bear Adventure Cruise Svalbard 2019
Your host for this once in a lifetime adventure is Eric Nixon. This will be Eric’s 4th trip to the Arctic and his knowledge about the region will help you get the most out of this experience. Although the trip will be his first trip in March, which is colder than his previous trips in April and May, these are the ideal conditions for ice floe. More ice will provide the best opportunity to get a glimpse of Nanuk, the Inuit word for Polar Bear. Nanuk means animal worthy of great respect.
Our mission is to leave Longyearbyen and travel on the MS Freya as north as the ice allows us as we search primarily for Nanuk. We will also see Arctic foxes, Reindeer, walrus and whales along the way.We will be joined by 2 expert guides, Fredrik Granath and Melissa Schäfer, who’s insight about the Arctic will be of intangible value. Currently Fredrick and Melissa are working on their upcoming book on Polar Bears which is scheduled for release in September 2019.
Our journey will allow us to experience the dramatic, rugged mountains, mighty glaciers and beautiful fjords of the archipelago. During the days, when conditions allow, we will leave the ship with our zodiacs to go on land or cruise around in the water, getting close to animals, icebergs and glaciers. Our schedule will coincide with the sightings of arctic animal life and there may be times when we find ourselves out in the late arctic light, viewing the extraordinary land and sea life.

Onboard our charming expedition ship, MS Freya, we are comfortably accommodated. The meals onboard are prepared by our Swedish chef and when it’s possible, we can also enjoy late-night barbeques on land or on an ice floe.
